The
competition is for recent portraits of Canadian subjects
by Canadian artists. A portrait will be interpreted to
mean a picture of a specific person or persons, but
there are no strict requirements. Paintings and drawings
are eligible. There is no limitation on style, and
contemporary and experimental styles are welcome.
The
portrait must be based upon a meeting in person between
the artist and subject, and the subject must sign a
statement on the entry form to confirm that this has
happened. Photographs of the subject taken by the artist
may be used for reference purposes.
The
Prize will be awarded to the best portrait, as chosen by
the jury, with special attention to mastery of the
medium, and a sensitive reflection of the interaction
between subject and artist.
